Adapazari which
is known as Sakarya that is a river flowing into the Black Sea, is located in the
Maramara Region of Turkey.Sakarya is in the center of fertile plain of Adapazari.This
meadow is like an island which is sorrounded by the branches of the rivers.It is
a late period Ottoman city.Adapazari is next to Historical Silkyroad and Ottoman
Bagdat Road and in the crossroads of
Istanbul and Anatolia.
Lake Sapanca has a breathtaking natural beauty which is 5 km away from Adapazari.You
can see the most charming natural beauty of Lake Sapanca in the Arifiye Forest,
in the province, that is a nice resting spot.If you are interested in water sports,
it`s possible to do various sports here where there are fine accommodation opportunities
are available.To the South, hunting can be done such as partridge, rabbit..Sapanca
Lake is an important tourism center for it has ideal location, residance and other
opportunities.Every year in June, a poem contest is held near Sapanca Lake.This

29 km away from Adapazari and a very famous thermal cure center which recovers many
diseases.Tarakli (Geyve) is another thermal springs.
The history of Sakarya dates back to 378 BC.You can see lots of Roman and Byzantine
remains such as Justinian Bridge ( Bes Kopru) bulit by Byzatine Emperor Justinian
in AD 533.This Bridge is an exciting place for history lovers as it`s a 429 m long
and eight arched bridge.The region was under the sovereignty of Bitinya between
BC 300 and A.D 395.The historical ruins has showed that Adapazari province was the
intersection point of the civilizations during the history.There are Ottoman monuments
in the province such as Elvan Bey Imarethanesi in Geyve, Seyh Muslihittin Mosque
in Kaynarca, II. Beyazid Bridge in Geyve and Yunus Pasa Mosque in Tarakli are still
the unwipped foodprints of Ottoman Empire.
Hayhurum had an important presence in Adapazari where an Armenian community had
been since 1608.The agreement in 1923 for Exchange of Greek and Turkish Populations
had contained them.Athens Benaki Museum displays precious objects of culture and
belonging to this community.

Deresi, Akcay Deresi, Yirtmac Deresi, Degirmendere are considerable rivers.People
move to plateous in summer as it`s so hot.
At 03:02, 17th August 1999, people were a sleep when a devastating eartquake
(7.4 Richter scale) struck the city.Thousands of citizens died and left at least
50.000 homeless.Other provinces that are affected by this eartquake are
Izmit, Yalova,
Bursa, Bolu
and
Istanbul.
Adapazari is a trade center for farming area in which tobacco, walnut wood, cocoons,
grains, and sugar beets are grown.Catering vegetables to Istanbul are considerable.Rail
road and agricultural machinery are manufactured in the city, and iron, zinc, and
copper are mined nearby.The famous automobile factory ,Toyota Motor Corporation
is in Adapazari.The population is 238,752.
The flora in this region is vividful.The average temperature is 14.Winters are rainy
and warm, summers are hot in Adapazari.You can feel both Marmara
Region climate and Black Sea Climate in Sakarya.The province has some thermal springs
which have fine accomadation.These are Kuzuluk Thermal, Cokek Thermal, Acisu, Ilica
Village, Kil Hamami.
Adapazari offers exellent dishes which are mostly local dishes.Golden Spoon Food
Competition is very famous and most of the people want to join this contest.Tourists
can also join this food contest.
In summer , on Melen Cayi rafting can be done.On Mudurnu Cayi, river canoe
